Free Web Hosting Services
Free web hosting services are still available on the internet today. The once popular method of getting people to build a site that the free web host could advertise on is still alive and but perhaps not as well as the business model once was.
Back in the internet boom days which ended in 1999 - 2000 and made huge plummets in 2001 in terms of the technology stock index, back then free web hosting services was a huge business. The free web hosts would allow a user to create a small web site on which the free web hosting provider could then place ads on that site, usually in the top section of the web site. At that time advertisers were paying extraordnary rates for online advertising, going as high as $300 cpm or $30 for each impression an ad was shown to a visitor. Most of these wasteful advertising spends were done by people with big financial backing from venture capitalists and free web hosting providers, while they could not really command $300 cpm they did make a good share of this rush to spend money in online advertising.
So now you know that if you host your web site with a free web hosting provider they are going to place the ads that make them money on your site, not actually a bad trade-off if you are really new to building a web site & you just want to test yourself to see if this is something that you think you would like to do. One of the problems that people run into when testing out a free web host is that if they somehow get lost or the directions on how to use the system are incorrect or not available at all is that when the customer calls the free web host for customer support they will find that there is no customer support, the Free web hosting company’s sole interest is in having millions of web pages that delivers traffic to the advertisers that he or she controls, outside of that concern for the free web hosting customers is minimal.
The reality is this, if you own a computer and you have paid or are paying for dsl or some connection to the internet, more likely than not those bills you incur just to be online will far outweigh the cost of a $4.95/mo or a $5.95/mo web hosting plan which would afford you a complete hosting package along with customer support and a company that will back up their customers.
