Favicons
One of the cooler features to become available on the internet over the past few years is the Favicon. A Favicon is an abbreviated name for a Favorites Icon, which in the past has also become known as a website icon, page icon or urlicon. The Favicon shows up next to the HTTP before the domain name of a web site is displayed.
Usually the Favicon is associated with some theme of the web site or with some web site page and resembles to a much smaller degree that logo, icon color scheme or what have you. A good example of a Favicon is at Blue Host. If you go to that site you will see that they have an image of what could be referred to as a one sided rubics cube looking image on their site next to their name. Also up in the area where the Favicon goes you will see that same image but just much smaller. The nice thing about this is that it ties in the site to the domain name. Another example of a Favicon can be found at this Beer site. Now at this world beer directory you will see that they have a different image for their logo than they do for their Favicon, however even this Favicon tells the visitor that the site that they are visiting is something about beer.
So a Favicon can be used in many ways and it is a nice way to easily spice up your web site.
