When selecting a domain name for your company one thing you should be sure to check out is to see if there are any other companies out there who are using the basic name that you are choosing and if they have a trademark on the name you want to purchase. This important step can help you avoid future problems for if you start a business with a domain name and put up the web site but the name of that domain name and if the domain name’s web site title is anything close to the trademarked name then you might be in violation of trademark infringement and you may have to surrender having the web site up & possibly even the domain name if for some reason you are suspected of trying to use the domain name to cause the company who has it trademarked some problems.

The legal fees associated with suing or defending a law suit for trying to use a domain name for which some other company has trademarked the name for which the domain name represents. Some things to remember about your rights that in some cases you cannot trademark a name so that you can go ahead & sue someone to try to get their existing domain name. For clarity on this issue or if you have any specific questions you should see the US Patent and Trademark Office.
